LevelPeek

Independent match-3 desk — Canada

Free match-3 games, actually played first.

LevelPeek is a small editorial desk in Canada. We install free candy-puzzle titles from Google Play, play them on our own handset, then write down how each one really feels — pace, difficulty curve, session length and how the board reads.

The method

How a title gets onto the shelf

Four rules keep this desk honest. They are short on purpose, and we apply them to every title on the page.

  1. 01

    Played by hand

Every title here is installed and played on an Android handset in Canada — usually across several evenings — instead of being summarised from its store listing.

  2. 02

Store figures are quoted, never invented

Star figures and review counts on the cards are copied from each Google Play listing on the Canadian storefront, then checked again every month. We publish no score of our own.

  3. 03

    Notes, not verdicts

We describe the swap feel, the moment the difficulty curve turns, how long a level takes and whether the board stays readable on a small screen. You decide the rest.

  4. 04

    Independent of studios

The shelf carries no advertising and no paid placements. It is free to read and funded by readers who take Plus, so no studio can pay to appear here or change a line we write. The full statement sits in our terms of use.

BitMango

4.5 128K reviews Free

A long-running sweets board with a gentle opening stretch and a curve that only sharpens once the first hundred levels are behind you. Swaps register cleanly and cascades resolve fast, so a run fits into a five-minute break without feeling clipped.

MSTAGE

4.8 4.55K reviews Free

Bright, untimed boards that let you read the grid before committing to a swap. Levels are deliberately short, so the game plays as a run of small puzzles rather than one long climb, and a fresh life is rarely what holds up your next stage.

Candy Sweet Pop : Cake Swap

SUPERBOX Inc

4.6 8.25K reviews Free

Cake-shop styling laid over a classic swap grid, with layered objectives that ask you to clear covers as well as pieces. The pace is steady and the interface stays out of the way, which makes it one of the easier titles here to pick up cold.

RedFire Games

4.9 4.42K reviews Free

The tidiest board of the group: crisp piece art, a grid that stays legible at arm's length, and animations short enough that chains never drag. Difficulty comes from obstacle placement rather than a running clock.

A jelly-clearing variant where the goal sits underneath the pieces rather than on top of them, so a plan beats quick fingers. Sessions settle into a calm rhythm, and the art has had a visible refresh since the early builds.

Fruits POP : Match 3 Puzzle

SUPERBOX Inc

4.7 7.92K reviews Free

Fruit instead of sweets, running to a campaign of a thousand numbered stages. Boards stay modest in size, so a stage resolves in a minute or two — this is the title on the shelf built for short, repeated visits rather than long sittings.

Yo App

4.5 18.3K reviews Free

An easy-going take that keeps its opening stretch deliberately forgiving; the board only starts holding back moves once obstacles arrive. A sensible pick when you want something to occupy your hands rather than your full attention.

Jewel & Candy - Match 3 Puzzle Game Studio

4.6 7.29K reviews Free

Aimed at grown-up players rather than children, with a denser grid and goals that want a plan before the first swap. Nothing is timed, so a half-finished board can sit on screen while you think it through.

  • Denser grid
  • Untimed
  • Grown-up tone

Star figures and review counts were read from the Google Play listings for the Canadian storefront. Installing any title takes you to Google Play; LevelPeek does not host or distribute software.

Field notes

What the tags on each card mean

Match-3 looks like one genre from the outside. Six ideas explain almost every difference across the titles above.

  • 01

    Swap and match

The base move: trade two neighbouring pieces so three or more line up. Everything else in the genre is built on top of that one gesture.

  • 02

    Cascades

Cleared pieces drop the column above them, which can trigger a second clear with no further input. A long cascade is the quiet pleasure of the genre.

  • 03

    Layered boards

Covers, crates and jelly sit over or under the pieces. You are clearing the layer, not the piece, which changes how you read the whole grid.

  • 04

    Move budgets

Most free titles cap the number of swaps instead of running a clock. That turns a level into a planning puzzle rather than a test of reflexes.

  • 05

    Untimed play

Several titles on the shelf never start a timer at all. The board waits while you make a cup of tea, which suits a commute or a queue.

  • 06

    Difficulty curve

The first twenty levels teach; the next hundred test. Our notes say where each curve actually turns, because that is where most players stop or stay.

What Google Play reviewers say

Quoted from public reviews on the Google Play listings of the titles above. We shorten for length, never for meaning, and we do not write reviews on anyone's behalf.

  • Downloaded this game several days ago and have played a number of levels. The levels started off easy but have become more challenging. Fun to play with pleasing graphics.
